I joined Heathcote & Coleman as a trainee in 1989, and apart from a short break I have remained at the firm ever since, becoming a partner in 2004. My role involves being a business advisor as much as an accountant: clients appreciate the fact that I have built up an in-depth knowledge of their needs and business affairs over many years. Such consistency and client-focussed attention is important to them.

I look after many solicitors' and doctors' practices and specialise in business start ups and business planning. I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1995 and as a Chartered Accountant in 2008. From my point of view H&C offers everything that I need - it's an excellent independent practice that majors on good quality service and client care. These are qualities close to my heart.

Nick Simkins

"I value being involved with clients on a long-term basis"

I trained with Heathcote & Coleman, qualifying as a chartered accountant with the firm in 1992. After many years with the Audit Commission and KPMG I have returned to the firm, where I feel I can be more in control of my life. Not only that, I value being involved with clients on a long-term basis, understanding their history and perspective and working with them to solve problems in a constructive way.

My main role at the moment is building up an audit and assurance service in the public sector. This is a new area for firm but it is one I know very well. The challenge is transferring into the public sector the personal service that we provide so well for private firms. Other areas I am closely involved with include charities, due diligence, corporate governance, risk management and internal audit.
